We hope you enjoy exploring the archaeology of Mississippi. NEWS UPDATES Mississippi Mound Trail is Here! The Mississippi Mound Trail has arrived! With 33 marked sites, the Mound Trail offers residents and tourists numerous opportunities to explore the many Native American prehistoric monuments that dot Mississippi's landscape. The Mound Trail is a joint venture between the Mississippi Department of Archives and Histoiry, the Federal Highway Administaration, and the Mississippi Department of Transportation. October is Archaeology Month in Mississippi! Archaeology month activities include public talks on archaeology and archaeological methods, visits to ongoing archaeological fieldwork projects, site tours, and even fieldwork opportunities.
